In this story I share how I got to suffer from Shins Splints. And how, after regular treatment proved unsuccessful, I was finally able to get rid of it by unconventional means. Or… At least an unconventional means led to a simple remedy.

I used to exercise at least 20 hours a week

I bring the kids to school. By bike. This is by far my largest part of my daily exercise. Things used to be different when I was younger.

I used to do a lot of biking, play ultimate frisbee, go rollerblading or running, do some dancing (it’s actually off-beat awkward stumbling) and I played some squash. When I exercise, I can’t turn it down a notch. My guesstimate is that a week averaged at least 20 hours of intense physical exercise.

My training was intense. People photo created by drobotdean — www.freepik.com

The way I went about my physical extortion took its toll. I started to develop the symptoms of Shin splints. This is usually caused by high-impact exercise, causing inflammation of the tissue in the inside edge of the shinbone. To put it simply; I started to experience a sharp pain just above my ankle.

I suffered minor injuries now and then. I didn’t expect my body to fully withstand all the activities I went…
